İrfan Önürmen “Unknown Reason”

İrfan Önürmen’s exhibition "Unknown Reason" displays different techniques and approaches, from
tulle works, which are the artist’s unique style, to paper collages, concrete works to canvases. In
addition to these familiar techniques, the artist adds a new material to his rich repertoire, presenting
his works created by painting and rubbing on sandpaper. The artist is interested in the material,
which in turn nourishes him. He does not hesitate to experiment to open up new areas for himself
through his productive adventure and in this sense, he turns his adventure into a game. These
bifurcations he experiences and his desire to walk different paths also mean the enrichment of his
formal language. The artist never broke his connection with the canvas and kept coming back to
canvas painting. The transparency, three-dimensionality and depth effects created by İrfan
Önürmen in his tulle works can also be viewed in his paintings. The figure never disappears in the
works of the artist, who has developed an imagery that sometimes strays from the boundaries of
abstract painting. The human being becomes blurred, fragmented and uncertain, but always reveals
themselves as a great problematic in the middle of his painting. Here, human is a political image, not
a slogan.

with which he wants to create a philosophical field of inquiry. The artist thinks and produces about

he experiments with the creation of new paths by juxtaposing his old and new works without any

approaches and productions, to reveal the problems of form and content, and to discuss them within
